Nomad

Nomad is an important building block for our internal IT infrastructure. Besides using Nomad for about 6 years for the bitExpert IT infrastructure, we also started using it for some of our customer projects to have a standard way of deploying and running applications. This significantly simplifies the IT operations part on our side.

Nomad is a simple and flexible scheduler and orchestrator helping organizations to reduce operational overhead, and maximize infrastructure usage.

Nomad can be seen as an alternative to Kubernetes. From an operational side, Nomad is a lot simpler to maintain as it is "just" a single binary that needs to dropped on a server. Additionally, Nomad not only allows to run Docker images but can also run Java processes, binaries or spawn virtual machines via qemu/KVM.
